Ear, nose and throat specialists, are more commonly known as ENTs, ENT doctors and otolaryngologists and they specialize in Otolaryngology. Otolaryngologists are involved in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of disorders of the head and neck, this includes the ears, nose throat, sinuses, voice box (larynx) and other structures in this region. Otolaryngology is a surgical specialty while ENTs are trained in the medical and surgical management of the disease.

It must be noted that general otolaryngologists do not limit their practice to any one portion of the head and neck. They can be called upon to treat a variety of conditions.
