All you need to know about COVID-19 vaccine

Ever since the world began to face the unprecedented crisis of COVID-19, every individual had one question- when will there be a vaccine that will protect us against the novel coronavirus? The answer to this question is now with us as the vaccine that will combat COVID-19 is on our tables at HJ Hospitals.

We have been actively working to fight the coronavirus ever since the beginning of the lockdown when COVID cases were on an all-time rise in the country. HJ Hospitals and HJ Foundation together provided designated COVID facility, home care quarantine packages, medicines, COVID kits, doctor visits and even diagnostic lab services to the people of DRC. By maintaining a COVID-free zone in our premises, we ensured that other medical departments like maternity, nephrology, urology, neurology and cardiology weren't affected due to COVID-19. Now, we're ready to offer our citizens the Covishield Vaccination for COVID prevention and protection. Here are a few must-know facts about the vaccine that you must read.

What is the COVISHIELD vaccine and how effective is it?

The Covishield vaccine is manufactured by the Serum Institute of India and it is an Indian manufactured variant of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. The vaccine is administered in two doses given between a period of four to six weeks. Once injected, it pushes the immune system to make antibodies against viral infections like COVID-19. The vaccine has proved to be 70% effective in its trials done by now and is completely safe for all.

    Who can take the vaccine?

The vaccination is voluntary. As per the selection criteria of the HJ Hospitals (authorised by PEV), vaccination against COVID-19 can be given to any individual, provided that he/she is over 18 years of age and that the vaccination team finds no contraindication to the Covishield Vaccine.

Are there any side effects too?

In most cases, slight soreness or pain in the arm, mild fever, headache or fatigue are a few side effects of the vaccination. All these symptoms do not last for more than a week.

How to get the vaccine at HJ Hospitals?

The process is simple! Here are the steps you need to follow-

    • Walk-in HJ Hospitals Clinique in Limete, Gombe and Lubumbashi
    • Carry your identity proof
